River Cruise by Glenton

“There is nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” So
said Kenneth Graeme in his novel
The Wind in the Willows – and no truer words were
spoken! Enjoy lazy days drifting past riverside hamlets where time has stood still,
admiring ancient castles and lapping up the lush countryside before mooring at the
destination of the day for independent sightseeing or a fascinating excursion. All you
have to do is relax while the hard working crew serve delicious food and drinks. In fact,
as you sail along, you only need to interrupt your sightseeing or chatting with your
fellow holidaymakers to partake of breakfast, mid-morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea
and dinner.

Overnight Ferry to Continent

Your holiday moves up a gear when you board your overnight ferry for your sailing to the continent. Drop your overnight bag in your cabin then explore the ship or unwind with an aperitif in one of the bars.

On Board Dining

All GLENTON continental holidays include dinner and breakfast onboard. Head to buffet restaurant where your waiter will show you to your table and take your order if you wish to purchase any drinks. Then you’re free to help yourself from the wide selection of tasty dishes from around the world. At breakfast, choose from continental or a fully cooked menu. Alternatively if you fancy treating yourself, why not upgrade to the à la carte restaurant and enjoy fine dining with full waiter service?

Entertainment

Make your way to the show lounge and enjoy live entertainment throughout the evening – or take your place on the dance floor for a wee boogie! Perhaps you’d like to catch a blockbuster movie at the cinema or try your luck at the casino.

Cabins

Your GLENTON continental holiday includes an air conditioned inside en suite cabin with bunk beds. However, you can upgrade to a cabin with level beds and/or sea view for a small supplement. Please ask your holiday advisor when booking.

Shopping

Grab a bargain during your crossing where we leave the mainland prices behind! With special offers on treats such as alcohol and perfume.

Your Itinerary
DAY 1: We travel to our overnight ferry to the continent enjoying, dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

DAY 2: We make our way to Cologne in time for dinner on the MV Esmeralda.

DAY 3: Cruising upstream on the River Rhine we pass the university city of Bonn and enter the Rhine Gorge, where the river winds its way past the Seven Mountains to reach the old Roman town of Andernach by early afternoon. From here we include a coach tour of the Eifel Mountains.

DAY 4: Cruising upstream on the quieter River Moselle, past famous vineyards and picturesque wine villages, to arrive at the favourite tourist centre of Cochem, with its colourful riverside promenade and cobbled alleyways and squares. In the afternoon we include a coach excursion through the Moselle Valley to Bernkastel.

DAY 5: We cruise back to Koblenz and onto the wine town of Boppard, where the remainder of the day is free to explore.

DAY 6: Cruise through the most spectacular part of the Rhine Gorge, learning about the legendary Loreley Rock, and passing a succession of ruined hilltop castles. Today's destination is Rüdesheim, perhaps the best known of the Rhine Valley resorts, where the Drosselgasse alleyway is full of friendly wine taverns.

DAY 7: From Rüdesheim our coach takes us to the twin riverside villages of St Goar and St Goarhausen, and to the top of the Loreley Rock for views of the river below. We rejoin the ship in Koblenz, mooring adjacent to the Old Town, re-built since World War II.
