North Devon Delights
5 Day Coach Holiday
North Devon has something for everyone with picturesque marinas, golden beaches, gorgeous gardens and intriguing museums. Our base is the ancient port of Bideford, situated on the estuary of the River Torridge. Here you’ll find an expansive waterfront and a tree-lined riverside quay from where visitors can take a pleasure boat trip to Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel. Bideford has pastel painted houses and attractive small shops as well as a historic pannier market selling produce and crafts. Antique stores are scattered amongst the narrow alleyways that lead up from the quay and the river. Perhaps visit the railway heritage centre, Burton Art Gallery & Museum or historic Tapeley Estate then relax with a coffee in one of the pavement cafés. We make the most of our time with visits to Woolacombe, the coastal haven of Ilfracombe, medieval Barnstaple and leafy Exmoor National Park – a breathtaking landscape of woodland and valleys, created by nature over thousands of years and home to an abundance of wildlife.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Woolacombe & Ilfracombe
We begin our day in the enchanting seaside village of Woolacombe with its carpet of golden beach. From here we move on to Ilfracombe, an idyllic resort tucked away amidst a rocky coastline of outstanding beauty with secluded coves and cliff top paths. This coastal haven is home to the unique Tunnel Beaches which were hand cut in the last century and are little sun traps which give access to safe bathing. Other attractions include the award-winning aquarium, cruises on the Ilfracombe Princess, a fascinating museum full of curiosities and Chambercombe Manor – one of Britain’s most haunted houses!
Barnstaple & Exmoor National Park
The former river port of Barnstaple on the banks of the River Taw is the main town in North Devon and has a charming High Street with traditional shops and a historic market. Wander around its partly pedestrianised centre admiring the fine buildings along the ornate Queen Anne’s Walk. Perhaps visit the interesting Museum of North Devon. We continue to Exmoor National Park where you’ll find historic sites, glorious gardens, amazing wildlife and acres of unspoilt countryside and coastline. Watch out for a huge array of species, including majestic red deer, elusive otters and some of the UK’s rarest butterflies and bats.
