Take in the best of the Borders while staying at majestic Waverley Castle, an opulent building standing in parkland just a mile from the hub of Melrose and boasting wonderful views of the Eildon Hills. Our itinerary takes in Sir Walter Scott’s romantic mansion, Abbotsford House, Hawick, the largest of the Border towns, then Selkirk, a place famous for braes and wynds. We also cross into England to explore Northumberland National Park.

Your Excursions
Abbotsford House & MelroseWe visit the ancestral home of novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott, who gained an international reputation as Scotland’s most successful and prolific writer. There is much to see including the chapel, gardens and visitor centre. Followed by free time in Melrose.
Hawick & Selkirk
Hawick is renowned for fine quality knitwear. Discover the story of the region’s knitwear and tweed industries at the Border Textile Towerhouse or the town’s history at its museum and gallery. Perhaps visit the whisky distillery, set in a restored Victorian building. We proceed to Selkirk, where William Wallace was proclaimed Overlord of Scotland.
Northumberland National Park
We cross into England to explore this stunning park with its hill forts, roman ruins, craggy castles and ancient landmarks including Hadrian’s Wall which twists and snakes along dramatic cliffs. Close to the wall is The Sill which has exhibitions, a rooftop walk, cafe and shop.
