Itinerary

Overview

The mystical Isle of Skye lies off the West Coast of mainland Scotland and is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides as well as being renowned for its natural beauty, history and wildlife. Our base for this island adventure is picturesque Kyleakin, a sleepy Hebridean village perched on the eastern edge of the island and arranged around an enchanting harbour. The ruins of tenth century Caisteal Maol watch over Kyleakin and the village is backed by the Hill of the Red Fox with its well marked paths offering scenic walks for all abilities. Indeed, the bridge to the mainland is also a popular walk with tourists.

Your Excursions

Guided tour of Dunvegan Castle & Portree - A guided tour takes us to Dunvegan Castle which stands on a rock on Skye’s west coast between the sea and lovely gardens. On display you’ll find fine paintings and clan treasures including the legendary Fairy Flag. We proceed to the picturesque island capital of Portree.

Island Highlights - On this excursion we get off the beaten track and take in some of the finest scenery in Scotland as we cross the centre of Sleat to discover the hidden gems of Skye. Watch out for long deserted castles, lush forests, soaring mountains, ancient churches, pristine beaches, white-washed cottages and golden eagles gracing the skies.

Trotternish Peninsula - We head to the northernmost peninsula on the Isle of Skye, passing iconic sites such as the Storr and the Quirang and enjoying great seascapes in all directions. We take in the ruined fortress at Duntulm, the port of Uig and Flora McDonald’s grave. We also visit the Museum of Island Life where we learn how crofters scratched a living from the land (April departure only).

Isle of Rum - We catch the ferry to Mallaig where we board the MV Lochnevis. Savour the mountain scenery as we sail across the Sound of Rum to tiny Kinloch. The main attraction on this tiny island is Kinloch Castle, a Victorian mansion and stately home with a stunning interior (October departure only).
