Isle Of Man: A Step Back In Time
5 Day Coach Holiday
Lying in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland, the Isle of Man is known for its rugged coastline, medieval castles, rural landscape, colourful heritage, miles of beaches, areas of natural beauty and sleepy villages where time has stood still. Its capital, Douglas, enjoys an enviable position on a crescent shaped bay and is home to grand architecture and a long esplanade where horse-drawn trams ply their trade. Perhaps visit the town’s Great Union Camera Obscura, a Victorian curiosity and a quirky way to take in the stunning views. Or uncover the island’s Celtic and Viking heritage at the Manx Museum, located behind Villa Marina Gardens. We head to the seaside town and fishing port of Peel where we include entry to Peel Castle, a stronghold that dates back to the tenth century and was originally a place of worship. We also visit Cregneash, a living museum portraying life as a crofter and we enjoy time in the idyllic coastal village of Port Erin.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Peel & Peel Castle
Located on the west coast, the quaint harbour town of Peel is a thriving fishing port with a maritime heritage spanning centuries and an expansive modern marina. We include entry to Peel Castle – the fort of Magnus Barefoot, eleventh century Viking King of Mann! Set on St Patrick’s Isle overlooking the quay, this imposing fortress has a round tower, church, atmospheric crypt, gatehouse and great hall - all set amid extensive grounds. Elsewhere in Peel you’ll find the fascinating Manannan Museum where a legendary sea god reveals all about the island’s rich Celtic, Viking and maritime history!
Cregneash Folk Museum & Port Erin
Experience bygone days at the picturesque village of Cregneash, the last stronghold where the Manx language was spoken and where life in a nineteenth century crofting settlement is depicted. Step inside the cottages to unearth the lives of the crofters through craft demonstrations. From here, we head to the idyllic coastal village of Port Erin with its sandy beach, lighthouse and seafront cafés.
