Our outstanding base for this fascinating tour is the exceptional Bloomfield House Hotel, which enjoys an idyllic setting in the heart of County Westmeath’s lakelands. Nestling in picturesque parkland, overlooking Lough Ennell, it’s little surprise that this stunning property recently featured in the “Fab Fifty Places to stay in Ireland” list. Take a stroll in the country air to the lakeside jetty, enjoy the tranquillity of the walled garden, or indulge yourself with a spa treatment. Our sightseeing takes in Strokestown Park House, Gardens & National Famine Museum where you can explore the Palladian mansion and formal gardens then delve into the parallel lives of the estate’s aristocratic landlords and their tenants during the tragic Great Irish Famine. We spend a day in Galway, a compact city built around commanding Lynch’s Castle and home to a Latin Quarter and pretty Eyre Square. We also head to the fair city of Dublin, where our guided tour will get your sightseeing off to a brilliant start.

Guided Tour of Strokestown Park House, Gardens & National Famine Museum
At Strokestown Park House you can uncover lifestyles from centuries past for both gentry and servants and view art and artefacts in the grand rooms and below stairs in this Palladian mansion. Outside, there are picturesque woodlands and formal gardens to
explore, while the estate’s award winning National Famine Museum dramatically brings to life this heartrending period in Ireland’s past.

Galway
This striking city is ideally compact for a leisurely stroll through its winding streets where you’ll find craft shops and lively pubs as well as the picturesque Latin Quarter and Eyre Square – also known as the John F Kennedy Memorial Park. The old centre surrounds foreboding Lynch’s Castle, and a pedestrianised thoroughfare leads down to the waterfront. The city’s cathedral is located on Nuns’ Island, accessed by a bridge and featuring a mighty dome and stained glass windows.

Guided tour of Dublin
A guided tour of the fair city onboard our coach to get your sightseeing off to a great start followed by free time to enjoy this city’s wealth of attractions. Your choices are endless with the Guinness Storehouse, Dublinia Viking Museum, National Leprechaun Museum, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Trinity College, Ha’penny Bridge and the Writers Museum all vying for your attention. Or perhaps sip a pint of the black stuff in the Brazen Head – a pub that dates back to the twelfth century.
