Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We journey to our overnight ferry to the continent, where we enjoy dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Two. We continue to the Ahorn Harz Hotel in the Harz Mountains and check in for four nights.

Day Three. We step into a fairytale at the medieval town of Quedlinburg with its narrow, cobbled streets, stunning half-timbered houses, storybook churches, and charming main square. From here, we continue through the glorious Harz Mountains, passing the largest dam in Germany, then stopping at the Monastery Michaelstein. Simply built with Cistercian style architecture, it features a cloister and refectory along with a well preserved manor, forge, stables and medieval gardens.

Day Four. Our Harz Mountains adventure continues when we step back to the heyday of steam trains as we board a historic carriage for a trip on the Harz Narrow Gauge Railway up to the summit of Mount Brocken, one of the highest train stations in Germany. Our rail journey then continues to idyllic Wernigerode where we take in a guided tour of this Harz town. It is an absolute gem with half-timbered buildings and a gothic town hall, and we include entry to its majestic castle. Stunningly situated, this fortress dates from the Middle Ages and is said to mysteriously change its appearance with the weather! It was used by German Emperors travelling on hunting expeditions to the Harz Mountains and features towers, turrets, and large arched, gothic windows as well as a sumptuously furnished interior. Outside, there are formal gardens with terraced vineyards.

Day Five. A guided tour of the imperial city of Goslar with its thousand year history and UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, is our treat today. It is simply stunning with a captivating ancient quarter and a picture postcard market square, bordered by a magnificent church with Romanesque stained glass windows. Afterwards, free time to continue exploring.

Day Six. We head to our overnight ferry back to the UK, with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Seven. We make our way home after our enchanting break.
