This tempting holiday is based in wonderful Winchester, a graceful city nestling on the edge of the South Downs National Park. It’s most notable landmark is undoubtedly the thousand-year-old cathedral where the famous author, Jane Austen was laid to rest. This stunning building is one of the largest cathedrals in Europe and features a blend of Norman and Gothic architecture. Inside you’ll find seventeenth century Morley Library, the illuminated Winchester Bible and a Norman crypt. Another must see is Winchester Castle where the medieval Great Hall houses King Arthur’s round table. Elsewhere in this grand city you’ll find a restored water mill, a diverse range of museums and the ruins of Wolvesey Castle – former residence of the Bishop of Winchester.
The harbour city of Portsmouth has a wealth of attractions such as the D-Day Museum and Spinnaker Tower. The must see waterfront features the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, harbour boat tours and the interactive Action Stations. Close to Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory is the captivating Mary Rose Museum, built around the sixteenth century warship and presenting an intriguing insight into Tudor life.
Buckler’s Hard & Beaulieu River Cruise & Lyndhurst
This captivating attraction features the Maritime Museum & Buckler’s Hard Story showing how the village would have looked in the early 1800s and giving an insight into the history of this shipbuilding village. After some time to look around, we enjoy a cruise on the Beaulieu River complete with commentary. From here, we head to lovely Lyndhurst, home to many antique shops and quaint tearooms.
