Itinerary

Overview

This sightseer’s feast kicks off in dynamic Dublin where we take in a guided tour of its famous landmarks such as the Guinness Storehouse, Trinity College, Dublin Castle and St Patrick’s Cathedral. We pop into Carrickon-Shannon, a riverside town with a modern marina and then it’s Sligo, the coastal settlement that inspired the poet, Yeats and where rolling waves crash upon golden sands. Moving on to medieval Ballina, we cross the bridge to Achill Island to discover its sleepy villages and powdery beaches. Next up is Galway, a colourful metropolis that packs a lot into its winding alleys then we venture onwards to Birr, a virtually intact Georgian town where elegant period houses flank tree-lined avenues. We arrive in Tullamore where the Grand Canal meanders through its charming centre then beautiful Bray beckons - one of the Emerald Isle’s prettiest coastal resorts. A toe-tapping evening of traditional Irish entertainment at Dublin’s legendary Taylors Three Rocks nightspot is a fitting finale to our spectacular Irish adventure.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We journey to Holyhead for our ferry crossing to Dublin. After disembarking, we continue to Mullingar for our two night stay at the excellent Bloomfield House Hotel.

Day Two. First treat is a morning tour of Dublin taking in the city’s sensational landmarks. Afterwards, continue exploring at your own pace. Perhaps visit the quirky Leprechaun Museum, explore the Guinness Storehouse or sip a pint of the black stuff in the Brazen Head – a pub that dates back to the twelfth century.

Day Three. This morning we head firstly to captivating Carrick-on-Shannon where you’ll find a quaint waterfront. Later it’s onwards to the historic port town of Sligo for free time. Maybe you’d like to visit the thirteenth century abbey with its intricate carvings or learn about the town’s Stone Age past at the County Museum. Afterwards, we head to the Twin Trees Hotel & Leisure Club in Ballina for our two night stay.

Day Four. This morning we follow the spectacular Atlantic coast, overlooking the ocean and the islands of Clare and Achill Beg, arriving at Achill Island. This hidden gem is home to a Neolithic tomb and a deserted village that stands as a poignant reminder of the Great Famine.

Day Five. Look forward to a guided tour of gorgeous Galway, brimful of quirky cafés and hidden treasures. Afterwards, enjoy some free time before we move onto Birr and check into the County Arms Hotel for two nights.

Day Six. A day at leisure. Perhaps visit Birr Castle Demesne, a storybook fortress where the grounds are a tranquil oasis of romantic walks, a fairytale moat, rare plants and waterfalls.

Day Seven. We bid Birr farewell then journey to Tullamore, where we enjoy a guided tour of the legendary Irish whiskey distillery, including a sample or two. Afterwards there will be free time to linger over lunch or enjoy a stroll along the canal towpath. From here, we travel to Bray and check into the Royal Hotel for our one night stay. Time to get your glad rags on for our fantastic night out at Dublin’s Taylors Three Rocks. Here we tuck into a delicious three course meal along with a whiskey and Irish coffee before the entertainment kicks off. Look forward to Irish dancers and musicians – and get ready to join in!

Day Eight. Enjoy some free time in Bray – perhaps stroll along the beach, the wide esplanade or Bray Head scenic cliff walk. Later, we head back to Dublin for our ferry home.
