Torquay has a continental ambience with luxury yachts bobbing in the harbour, golden beaches, swaying palm trees, elegant street facades and exotic gardens. Be sure to see Kents Cavern, a spectacular cave network just a short walk from Meadfoot Beach. Perhaps explore award-winning Babbacombe Model Village where you’ll find miniature people displayed with a touch of humour and a soupcon of history. Torquay’s Torre Abbey Historic House & Gardens is a lovingly preserved medieval monastery set in glorious grounds and well worth a visit. Enjoy an al fresco cuppa at the Quayside or stroll along Princess Pier promenade where Agatha Christie roller-skated in her youth. Don’t miss Torquay Museum with its exhibition dedicated to the aforementioned Queen of Crime.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. We make our way to Torquay and check into the Richmond Hotel.
Days Two & Three. Two free days to relax and explore amazing Torquay.
Day Four. An exhilarating and award winning day out as we explore South Devon by steam train, river boat and our coach. We journey to Paignton where we board our steam train for a nostalgic half-hour trip to Kingswear. We then hop on a ferry to Dartmouth where you’ll have free time to explore the ancient narrow alleys and cobbled squares or treat yourself to lunch. Later, it’s all aboard our boat for a ninety minute sail with commentary to the pretty market town of Totnes. From here, we board our coach to take in the vistas as we return to Paignton.
Day Five. We head to historic Exeter where you might like to follow the City Wall trail, explore the thousand year old castle or visit Northenhay Gardens. The city’s attractive Quayside area boasts a selection of independent shops as well as traditional tearooms.
Day Six. First up today is bustling Brixham, home to a life size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind and an expansive breakwater that’s perfect for a stroll. We move on to Paignton where you’ll find a busy harbour and a colourful pleasure pier.
Day Seven. We begin our day in the historic market town of Newton Abbot home to interesting shops and leafy parks. From here, it’s onwards to Teignmouth which has a Victorian pier, promenade and lido as well as a heritage centre.
