7 Day Coach Holiday

Holiday highlights on this unmissable tour include our visit to the Master of Impressionism, Claude Monet’s country retreat in the picturesque village of Giverny, set on the banks of the River Seine. Here we enjoy the extravagantly colourful gardens and iconic water lily ponds that edge Monet’s pastel painted house and are truly a delight to explore. From here, we call at nearby Vernon, an ancient settlement with roots all the way back to the Romans. We spend time in historic Rouen – named the ‘City of a Hundred Spires’ by Victor Hugo, and where you can walk in the footsteps of Joan of Arc. Another treat is our visit to the gardens of Chateau du Champ de Bataille, one of the most beautiful parks in Europe, where you’ll be wowed by the themed gardens and waterfalls. We call at pretty as a picture Honfleur, a harbour town with cobbled streets lined with half-timbered buildings. A relaxing cruise on the scenic River Seine completes our delightful itinerary.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We journey to our overnight ferry to the continent, where we enjoy dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Two. We continue into France, and to the Novotel Rouen Sud Hotel on the outskirts of Rouen and check in for our four night stay.

Day Three. An enchanting day as we discover the colourful gardens created by Monet, that gave him his greatest artistic inspiration. The most famous of them was his garden brimming with lovely lily ponds, which led to his water lilies series of paintings. After time to experience their splendour, we move on to the nearby atmospheric commune of Vernon for free time to stroll along the cobbled lanes in its medieval old town. Don’t miss the picturesque sixteenth century Old Watermill. Our day concludes with a photo stop at a viewpoint above the Seine at Chateau Gaillard.

Day Four. Enjoy free time in Rouen with its maze of alleyways and gothic churches. The city skyline is dominated by the spires of Cathedral Notre Dame, a splendid building much painted by Monet. Don’t miss the well photographed Gros-Horloge clock tower which straddles the main shopping street. Then there’s France’s oldest inn, La Couronne, which opened on the Place du Vieux-Marche in 1345, and the church dedicated to Joan of Arc, built next to where she was burnt at the stake. In the afternoon, we travel to Chateau du Champ de Bataille to visit the gorgeous grounds of this notable estate with its ornamental lake, topiary, waterfalls, fountains, tropical greenhouse, and uniquely themed gardens.

Day Five. The gems keep coming as we call at Honfleur. This picture perfect port reflects in the glassy waters and stands on the estuary where the River Seine meets the English Channel. It is utterly enchanting with its jumble of colourful buildings. Its beauty has attracted many artists, most notably, Claude Monet. Perhaps visit the Church of St Catherine, the largest church in France to be entirely made from wood or hop aboard the land train for a circuit of the town and hinterland. Our afternoon delight is a River Seine sightseeing cruise, taking in the beautiful panoramas.

Day Six. We check out and make our way to our overnight ferry, enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Seven. We continue home after a wonderful experience.
