This sensational seaside holiday is based in Newquay, surfing capital of England and home to a dozen beautiful beaches to dip your toes in. The resort’s mustsee old harbour is filled with colourful fishing boats offering trips around the coast. Relax on Fistral beach, ride the Lappa Valley miniature gauge steam train, be amazed at the Blue Reef Aquarium watching sharks and octopuses from an underwater tunnel or explore Trenance Leisure Park where you’ll find crazy golf, a mini railway and pitch and putt. Perhaps visit the award winning zoo, set in tropical gardens and housing endangered animals. Or head to the National Trust’s Trerice House – a romantic Elizabethan Manor with fine interiors, formal gardens and an enchanting tearoom. We venture out to discover the maritime town of Falmouth and historic Truro, Cornwall’s only city. We also explore the Cornish coastline discovering the enchantingly picturesque fishing ports of Padstow, St Ives and Penzance. Garden lovers will been thralled by our visit to the Japanese Gardens – an oasis of tranquillity set in the verdant Vale of Lanherne.
Falmouth & Truro
Our first port of call today is lively Falmouth, steeped in maritime history and home to the world’s third largest deepwater harbour. It is a town that has inspired countless artists, sailors, explorers and musicians. Near the entrance to Falmouth Docks you’ll find the lifeboat station where guides are happy to give you a tour of their boats and explain the activities of the RNLI. We continue to Truro, Cornwall’s only city and home to a stunning gothic revival cathedral with three soaring spires that dominate the skyline. Inside its grand walls you’ll find a treasure trove of the biggest stained glass project in the world.
St Ives & Penzance
A visit to the quintessential English fishing village of St Ives. Perhaps sit and watch the world go by at the harbour or meander the narrow streets. Next we visit Penzance, England’s most southerly point and has an abundance of palm trees and gardens full of sub-tropical plants.
Padstow & Japanese Gardens
We travel to the quaint fishing village of Padstow, famous for Rick Stein’s fish restaurant. Later, we visit the Japanese Gardens, an exotic paradise where you will be inspired by stunning displays of bonsai, azaleas, themed gardens, a bamboo grove, tumbling waterfall and the tranquillity of the scent-filled Zen viewing house (nine day holidays only).
St Austell & Charlestown
This old market town is just a few minutes from the coast and is one of Cornwalls biggest towns. Visit St Austell Brewery or explore the towns history as a centre for the clay china industry. We head to Charlestown, St Austells port, which has been used as a film location for TV’s Poldark(nine day holidays only).
