Cambridge & Ely Cathedral
5 Day Coach Holiday
The history-laden thirteenth century market town of Huntingdon is our exceptional base. Birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, the town is home to the world’s only museum dedicated to the life and legacy of this once powerful man. Huntingdon’s other attractions include a picturesque riverside park where you could perhaps take a boat trip or simply view the well-preserved medieval bridge. Out and about we visit exquisite Ely nestling in the Fen countryside in the shadow of its exceptional cathedral and home to a picturesque waterfront. We spend a day in the striking university city of Cambridge where you may like to visit the University Botanic Garden or take a punt on the river. Finally we explore the bustling Suffolk market town of Bury St Edmunds, home to a Gothic-Revival cathedral and a sixteenth century abbey with internationally acclaimed gardens.
PLEASE NOTE: Price is per person and based on two people sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplements and upgrades are not included.
Ely Cathedral & City
Dating from the eleventh century, the magnificent Ely Cathedral dominates the landscape for miles with its unique Octagon and West Towers. Don’t miss the beautiful exhibits in the cathedral’s stained glass museum. Afterwards, there will be free time to explore elegant Ely. Perhaps get an insight into seventeenth century life at the house where Cromwell lived for over a decade, learn the city’s history from prehistoric times at the museum or just relax by the River Great Ouse.
A must see attraction is King’s College Chapel where we include a guided tour. Other impressive landmarks include the Neo-Gothic Bridge of Sighs, nineteenth century All Saints Church and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – one of only four round churches in England. Perhaps treat yourself to a chauffeured punt on the River Cam.
Bury St Edmunds
A delightful town surrounded by countryside with over a thousand years of history to explore. Perhaps explore heritage attractions such as the gothic St Edmundsbury Cathedral or the ancient ruins of the Benedictine monastery with its internationally acclaimed gardens. Or why not try one of the splendid selection of traditional tearooms there to tempt you.
