Vibrant, cosmopolitan Bournemouth has everything you could possibly want in a beach break all wrapped up in one beautiful resort. Hop aboard the little land train and pick your perfect spot on a golden beach, sprinkled with colourful deckchairs and stretching for miles beneath a magnificent cliff-line. Pleasure piers provide traditional seaside fun and garden lovers are spoiled for choice with two thousand acres of parks such as the Alum Chine with its award winning displays of tropical flowers by the sea. Perhaps visit RussellCotes Art Gallery & Museum, housed in a Grade I listed building and presenting fascinating themed displays or hop on the local bus to the Aviation Museum where you’ll find exhibits of historic aircraft. Add on exquisite architecture like the Gothic-Revival St Peter’s Church along with traffic free shopping and you’ll find that Bournemouth is so much more than just a seaside resort.
Shaftesbury & Sherborne
Historic Shaftesbury is a pleasant market town and home to steep, cobblestoned Gold Hill, made famous by the Hovis bread advert. After a look around, we continue to Sherborne, a bustling town located on the Dorset and Somerset border and home to majestic architecture including a splendid abbey and an imposing castle built on the orders of Sir Walter Raleigh in the sixteenth century.
Salisbury is a medieval masterpiece with a magnificent gothic cathedral that has towered over the city for almost eight centuries. One of England’s most handsome cities, its grid-like streets with black and white half timbered architecture are simply a joy to explore. Perhaps visit the National Trust’s Grade I listed Mompesson House with its period artefacts and hidden garden.
Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway
Famous Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway is tucked away in the picturesque New Forest National Park. Be wowed by the stunningly impressive flower collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare shrubs set amidst a network of leafy pathways. Our day out is enhanced by a trip aboard the 12 ¼ inch gauge steam railway which puffs its way along a track through the gorgeous gardens. Afterwards, perhaps treat yourself to a bite to eat in Mr Eddy’s Tea Rooms (six day holidays only).
