Relax aboard your floating hotel as you discover the charms of the rivers Rhine and Waal on a delightful autumn cruise through the lowlands of Holland. This intriguing sail takes us to cities with strong World War II associations such as Arnhem, renowned for the 1944 battle, Dusseldorf, which was heavily bombed, and Nijmegen, famed for its historic bridge. We also spend time in ever- popular Amsterdam where you might like to visit Anne Frank’s house or explore the Rijksmuseum. Other highlights include the riverside settlement of Emmerich, and The Hague, a coastal city with many historic buildings.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Day One. Join your coach at your local pickup point, meet your host then relax as we journey south with rest stops along the way. Arriving in Newcastle, we board our overnight ferry to the continent enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. Free morning in Amsterdam, home to world class art-galleries and the Heineken Experience tourist attraction. Later we head to Arnhem to board the Esmeralda and settle in before dinner.
Day Three. A morning to explore Arnhem, renowned for the famous World War II battle when much of its old town was destroyed. Over lunch we sail to Emmerich, the first town in Germany.
Day Four. Today our ship glides us to Dusseldorf for free time. Take in the sights from the observation deck at the top of the Rheinturm tower, visit the 18th century Schloss Benrath and its gorgeous gardens or stroll down the Konigsallee – an elegant boulevard bordered by a canal on one side and sophisticated shops on the other.
Day Five. We sail on to the River Waal and to Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands and home to centuries old plazas.
Day Six. We sail to the busy port of Rotterdam then enjoy an afternoon visit to The Hague, seat of the Dutch Parliament and home to the striking Peace Palace.
Day Seven. Amsterdam is the destination today where the afternoon is free to explore before enjoying your last night on board.
Day Eight. We disembark after breakfast and head for the ferry back to Newcastle enjoying dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Nine. We continue home.

Your holiday moves up a gear when you board your P&O ferry at Hull for your sailing to the continent. drop your overnight bag in your cabin then explore the ship or unwind with an aperitif in one of the bars.
On Board Dining
All GLENTON continental holidays include dinner and breakfast onboard. Head to ‘The Kitchen’ buffet restaurant where your waiter will show you to your table and take your order if you wish to purchase any drinks. Then you’re free to help yourself from the wide selection of tasty dishes from around the world. At breakfast, choose from continental or a fully cooked menu. Alternatively if you fancy treating yourself, why not upgrade to The Brasserie Restaurant and enjoy fine dining with full waiter service?
Make your way to the Show Lounge and enjoy live bands throughout the evening – there’s even a dance floor if you fancy a wee boogie! Or slow the pace down at the Piano Bar where you can sip a cocktail as you listen to mellow music. Perhaps you’d like to catch a blockbuster movie at the cinema or try your luck at the casino.
Your GLENTON continental holiday includes an air conditioned inside en suite cabin with bunk beds. However, you can upgrade to a cabin with level beds and/or sea view for a small supplement. Please ask your holiday advisor when booking.
