Steaming Through The Dutch Bulbfields
Keukenhof Flower Gardens, once a modest little herb garden, is now where the Dutch bulb growing industry stage their annual petal spectacular attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. Each year between March and May, seven million bulbs planted across 70 acres burst into bloom. Not just tulips, but daffodils, hyacinths, narcissi and crocuses too!
We have also included a fantastic day excursion featuring a one way steam train journey from Hoorn to Medemblik, through the Dutch countryside including the blooming bulbfields together with a one way boat trip from Medemblik to Enkhuizen.

Monday : We enjoy our outward journey making suitable stops en-route to Dover, in time for our ferry to France. From Calais we make the journey into Holland and on to the Van der Valk Haarlem Hotel.
Tuesday : Following breakfast this morning we make our way to Keukenhof Gardens for our included visit and to meet up with our English-speaking guide. Over 50 years of displaying its floral art with a different theme every year and a fresh look every day, it has developed into a showcase for the flower bulb and ornamental plant industry.
Wednesday : After breakfast this morning we meet up with our guide for a full day exploring North Holland. During the day we include a visit to Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum of a ‘time-warp’ village which includes reconstructed houses, windmills and warehouses from the 17th & 18th centuries.
Thursday : Following breakfast we make our way to Hoorn in time to join the train to Medemblik. A thrilling heritage railway journey which takes us back in time. Wooden carriages creak, wheels sing and steam hisses as you travel through the Dutch countryside marvelling at the bulbfields, which should be in full bloom! Upon arrival in Medemblik there may be some free time before boarding our boat for the sailing along the coast of Lake Ijsselmeer to Enkhuizen. From here we make the journey backto Haarlem, where, time permitting, we enjoy some free time before returning back to the hotel.
Friday : Following breakfast we leave the hotel and make our way to Calais in time for our ferry back to Dover, from where we continue our journey home.Back to top
