Newby Bridge Hotel ~ 3 Star
Set in lovely, landscaped grounds with a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. All of the comfortable bedrooms are en-suite and feature TV, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a restaurant, Huntsman’s Inn traditional bar, indoor swimming pool, steam room and spa bath. Sorry No Lift, ground floor rooms may be available but may have a few steps to them.
We enjoy a ride out along the roads of the Grizedale Forest Park, passing Graythwaite Hall and Esthwaite Water to Ambleside, where we make a stop with time to explore. Following our time here we head north to Keswick where we enjoy more free time. This afternoon we head for beautiful Lake Ullswater and on to Glenridding for a short stop before continuing our journey through Patterdale to ascend the rugged Kirkstone Pass and drop down to Lake Windermere.
We make the short drive to Haverthwaite station where we catch the train to Lakeside for a visit to the Aquarium of the Lakes – Britain’s largest freshwater aquarium where you will find pike, sharks, otters and a variety of other aquatic life. Later, we join the ‘steamer’ for a cruise to Bowness, where we disembark giving us time at leisure. We re-join our coach here for the road journey back to the hotel.
‘High Adventure!’ The ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses arrive to take us where large coaches cannot go. This is a wonderful day, taking in the mountain passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the desolate Duddon Valley, awesome Hardknott Pass. See the lonely Roman Fort as we descend into Eskdale for a ride on L’al Ratty – The Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway, before seeing Wastwater – voted as Britain’s favourite view – and then we carry on to Muncaster Castle Garden & Owl Sanctuary, for our included visit. From here we return to the hotel via the southern fells.
