We travel to Fishguard / Pembroke for the sailing to Rosslare. We continue to our overnight half board accommodation in the Wexford / Waterford area.
Travelling to Westport we step back in time with a visit to the Bunratty Folk Park, an open air museum with a collection of recreated rural farmhouses, village shops and a 19th century village street where traditional lifestyles and crafts are demonstrated. We complete the Journey enjoying a warm welcome at the Westport Woods Hotel.
A full day guided tour to witness the enticing green scenery of Connemara. First we travel along the southern shore of Clew Bay passing the impressive Croagh Patrick, Ireland's Holy Mountain and one of the country's most iconic landmarks before we continue along the lovely coastal route to Louisburgh, through the Doolough Valley onto Leenane and Killary. We include a cruise fromKillary Harbour across Ireland's only fjord, sometimes described as the Gateway to Connemara; seals in their natural habitat and even dolphin encounters are possible. This afternoon we visit Kylemore Abbey, home of Benedictine nuns and see the Gothic church and Victorian walled gardens.
Day at leisure in Westport.
Today we include a guided tour to Achill Island, Ireland’s largest island. We follow the spectacular Atlantic Coast overlooking the amazing scenery of the Atlantic Ocean and the islands of Clare and Achill Beg. We follow the northern shore of Clew Bay, dotted with eighty small islands passing through the pretty villages of Newport and Mulranny. After a stop for lunch (not included) we visit the deserted village at Slievemore, which is a haunting reminder of times past, comprising some 80 deserted stone cottages located at the foot of Slievemore Mountain.
We depart Westport stopping off at the historic university town of Galway, the ancient capital of West Ireland, with highlights such as the famous Spanish Arch, cobbled medieval alleyways and the impressive stone cathedral on the banks of the River Corrib. We continue to our overnights half board accommodation in the Waterford/Wexford area.
We travel to Rosslare for the early morning sailing and complete the journey home.
