A special day today as we board the morning train for what will be the most scenic of railway journeys through the glens and round the massif of Ben Nevis to Fort William. The journey takes approx. 1 ¾ hours. Fort William is the focal point of the West Highlands and time is spent seeing the sights. After lunch, a short detour to Neptunes Staircase, Banavie. A Victorian engineering marvel as you see boats navigating a series of 8 lock gates on the Caledonian Canal. Returning through Glencoe, with time to take in the majestic scenery of the glen and mountains.
Today we drive along the shoreline of Loch Lomond to Tarbet and join a 1 hour cruise out on to the northern end of fjord-like Loch, sailing over the deepest part of the Loch in the shadow of Ben Lomond. This afternoon we head for historical town of Inveraray on Loch Fyne with admission into Inveraray Castle, with its opulent rooms, historic artefacts and beautiful gardens.
