INCLUDED EXCURSIONS
Thirsk & The World of James Herriot
Situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Thirsk is a charming market town with a compact centre and friendly locals. Step through the famous red door of 23 Kirkgate for an included visit to the World of James Herriot, the fully restored site of his original 1940s home and veterinary practice (known in his books as Skeldale House, Darrowby). The home retains many of the original furnishings in the family rooms, frozen in time - a magical time-capsule where the world's most famous vet and one of the most popular writers of 29th century lived, worked and wrote his much-loved stories. Take a close-up look behind the scenes of a reproduced set from the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. There will be time to explore Thirsk, which buzzes with colour and chatter at the weekly Monday market at the town's cobbled heart. You'll find local produce, artisan crafts, clothing and perhaps some unique souvenirs to take home.
Beverley
Head through the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds to East Riding's most attractive town, Beverley, a bustling market town which is full of Georgian character, charming streets and courtyards. Beverley's famous market dates back centuries and is a vital part of community life. There is usually a small market in the town centre on Wednesdays which offers a friendly atmosphere and several stalls, selling food, fruit, vegetables, freshly baked goods, arts and crafts. The landmark Gothic Beverley Minster complete with 13th century stone carvings and stained glass, dominates the skyline. Its impressive proportions and historic significance are best appreciated from inside. Building work began here in 1220 and wasn't completed until 1425 so three distinct architectural styles can be seen in the intricate detailing.
Day 5 - After breakfast travel homewards with a comfort stop en-route arriving early/mid evening
