Stratford-Upon-Avon - Shakespeare's Birthplace & Cream Tea Gin Tasting
Take a stroll through the historic market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, before getting ensconced in the town's eminent history at Shakespeare's Birthplace. Enjoy a fascinating visit where you can walk in the playwright's famous footsteps, exploring his childhood home, hear tales of his family life, and learn about life as a glove maker's son in an Elizabethan market town as well as the origins of some of the English language's most unusual sayings and myths. Time at leisure after the visit to stroll along the charming streets lined with independent boutiques and gift shops or perhaps along the banks of the River Avon and watch the swans glide by. Meet up this afternoon at Judith's Tasting Room in the heart of the town on the High Street. The building used to be the home of William Shakespeare's daughter, Judith, and her husband, Thomas Quiney, who ran a wine business form the premises. A Bard's Cream Tea awaits you here together with a tutored tasting of three of Shakespeare Distillery's spirits as well as a Stratford Gin & Tonic. This takes place on the first floor (no lift)
Charlecote Park & Warwick
Charlecote House is a grand property and was a family home for more than 900 years, before its transformation in the 1800s into one of the finest examples of Elizabethan Revival style by its owners Mary Elizabeth and George Hammond Lucy. In the parkland, Jacob sheep and fallow deer roam across the landscape designed by 'Capability' Brown, and there is also a formal parterre overlooking the River Avon and shady woodland garden NB The ground floor of the house is accessible. Some uneven paths. Later head into compact Warwick, famous for its massive castle (entrance not included), but it also possesses several charming streetscapes erected in the aftermath of a great fire in 1694. Perhaps you might like to visit The Lord Leycester Hospital, one of Europe's most important medieval buildings with over 900 years of history and home to veterans called Brethren since it was founded in 1571 (entrance not included - approx. £11 pp in 2025)
Day 4 - After a relaxed breakfast, depart with a stop at Bicester Avenue, the popular and award-winning home, garden and leisure shopping centre. Drive onto interchange and then onwards to your hometowns
