Remagen & Ahr Valley
The charming Roman town of Remagen with its epic history and charming, laid-back atmosphere is very close to where the mouth of Ahr meets the Rhine, making it the perfect base to explore this picturesque region. This weekend getaway includes a free bar on two evenings and a wonderful day excursion by train with wine tasting.

DAY 1 - From your chosen joining point your feeder vehicle will take you to the designated interchange point where your holiday begins. After joining your holiday coach, you travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais, then continue to Germany via the auto-routes of France and Belgium and onto Remagen. It will be a late arrival at the hotel this evening where a light supper awaits. Supper, bed & breakfast
DAY 2 - 3 - At leisure in Remagen, with one included excursion and two evenings free bar in the hotel (18.30 - 21.00) including local red and white wine, local draft beer, soft drinks and juices, tea and filter coffee). Dinner, bed & breakfast
During your leisure time, you may be interested to visit the Peace Museum, housed in one of the surviving basalt towers of the famous bridge, where visitors can learn about Remagen's pivotal role in WW2. Or why not cross the Rhine to Linz, the 'colourful town on the Rhine' with its cobbled alleyways, pretty timbered houses and Linz castle. There is a daily boat service from Remagen at 11.45 returning from Linz at 16.35 but please check locally for timetable updates and additional services which may vary according to the time of year.
The Valley of the Red Grape by Train
A full day out hosted by the hotel owner starts with a train ride from Remagen station (directly opposite the hotel) through the steep wine terraces on an air-conditioned diesel trains along the pretty Ahr Valley. Stop in the picturesque town of Altenahr located in a narrow part of the valley before travelling back one stop to Mayschoß. Here you will enjoy a horse-drawn covered wagon ride through the vineyards of the oldest wine growers' co-operative in the world, followed by a tour of the wine cellars, a tasting of three wines (including the excellent Pinot Noir red wine) and a light lunch of local cold cuts and cheese. This afternoon, continue your Ahr odyssey to the lovely medieval walled city of Ahrweiler for some free time.
DAY 4 - An early start takes you back to Calais and the return ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
