Old Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower
Spend the morning with a local guide on a stroll around Old Portsmouth, uncovering the secrets of The Point (also known as Spice Island), named for its importance as a major port importing exotic spices from around the world. Explore the cobbled streets and narrow lanes where press gangs plied their sinister trade.
Time at leisure for lunch and shopping at the impressive Gunwharf Quays with over 90 premium designer outlets and 30 cosmopolitan bars and restaurants before an included entrance up the iconic Emirates Spinnaker Tower. Experience the ‘wow’ of miles of spectacular views across the Solent from the 100m high viewing deck (complete with the amazing glass Sky Walk – if you dare!) as well as the open air Sky Deck at 110m.
A voucher is included for you to enjoy a cream tea at your leisure in the Waterfront Café.
Historic Dockyard & Harbour Cruise
Immerse yourself in Maritime history with a day at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, home to some of the most famous warships in the world, showcasing 800 years of naval history. Your ‘All-Attraction’ ticket includes entrance to the stunning new Mary Rose museum (good access with ramps and lifts throughout) as well as Lord Nelson’s flagship ‘HMS Victory’ and the world’s first iron-hulled battleship ‘HMS Warrior’ (both have plenty of steps and more difficult access so may not be suitable for all).
You can also visit the National Museum of the Royal Navy and there is also for a ticket for the harbour cruise (approx. 45 mins) which leaves at regular intervals from the Historic Dockyard – the best way to see the modern naval ships currently docked.
Day 4 - After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning in Southsea with its long, level seafront, independent shops and boutiques together with lush green gardens and seafront attractions. Southsea Castle is free to visit and Henry VIII is said to have seen the Mary Rose sink from here.
Alternatively you may like to return to Gunwharf Quays for a bit of last minute shopping or even hop over to Gosport on the ferry, home of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum (approx. 10 mins walk along the waterfront promenade) with the remarkable HMS Alliance (ferry and entrance not included).
Return homewards with suitable stops en-route and arrive back at your local joining points early to mid-evening.Back to top
