Leiden & Noordwijk
Lively Leiden, birthplace of Rembrandt, is home to the Netherlands' oldest and most prestigious university where Einstein was a researcher for a decade. Its complicated network of picturesque canals weave passed wonderful 17th century buildings and its ancient centre is criss-crossed with a maze of narrow lanes bursting with a multitude of bars and cafes patronised by the thirsty student population. Continue to the North Sea coast to blow the cobwebs away in Noordwijk with its 13km of blue flag sandy beaches and dunes.
Dutch Steam & Sail - Historic Triangle
Journey through time between the historic Zuiderzee towns of Enkhuizen, Medemblik and Hoorn. Start the day in Enkhuizen where you board the museum ship 'Friesland' for a cruise along the coast of Lake IJsselmeer with a cup of coffee served with Dutch apple pie. Arrive at Medemblik with time at leisure to explore (packed lunch included) before stepping aboard the steam 'tram'. As the whistle blows and fireman shovels coal into the firebox, the steam tram meanders through the quaint villages and the West Frisian countryside (May departure may catch the last of the colourful bulbfield display) to arrive at Hoorn with its pretty harbour and historic centre.
DAY 4 - Drive back to Calais today and the return ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.Back to top
