Heidelberg is a fairytale town any time of year and now you can experience an authentic Christmas market with its merry mix of fragrant Glühwein, fresh cut pine, beautiful wooden stalls all set against the romantic backdrop of the 17th century Student Prince city. Your base for the weekend is the attractive spa town of Bad Dürkheim with its beautiful parks, thermal springs and own festive market and be sure to sample some of the wonderful local Rieslings or Dornfelders. Maybe even pop in on the world’s largest wine barrel, the Dürkheimer Fass, which has a diameter of 13.5m and a capacity of 1.7 million litres. It is now a huge restaurant! Enjoy a visit to medieval Speyer with an included guided walking tour and some Christmas Cheer along the way with a mulled wine!!

DAY 1 – Travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continue to Germany and Bad Dürkheim for your 3 nights stay. Late arrival at the hotel this evening where a mulled wine and light buffet supper awaits. Bed and breakfast on the remaining two evenings.
DAY 2 -3 – At leisure in Bad Dürkheim with two included excursions
In the words of Goethe, ‘Make your Way to Speyer’, a delightful town on the Rhine, scarcely damaged in WWII, with a compact centre easy to explore on foot. Speyer’s crowning glory is the magnificent landmark 11th Kaiserdom cathedral, the largest Romanesque structure in Germany and the greatest building of the medieval German empire. Discover the charming streets and long history of the town with a guided walking tour with a local guide and a warming Glühwein along the way. Speyer’s atmospheric Christmas market takes place in the heart of the picturesque old town.
Compact Heidelberg packs a punch when it comes to the beautiful and historical Christmas market. With various different squares to choose from, over 140 stalls, and a skating rink beneath the castle, this traditional festive market has its own unique charm. With the glow of the castle above and yuletide cheer all around, you can’t help but feel the magic of Christmas. Heidelberg’s fabulous baroque old town, beautiful riverside setting, red sandstone buildings and rich literary heritage makes this one of Germany’s best known and popular cities. An included guided walking tour will show you some of its different festive faces. The energetic may like to visit the majestic ‘half-ruined’ hilltop castle (entrance or funicular railway ride not included) for stunning views across the town and the River Neckar.
