& Tall Ships in August!

One of Europe's top short-break destinations, Amsterdam is a compact and likeable city. It has loads of appeal with its intriguing mix of small-town character and cosmopolitan savvy. Amsterdam, is a youthful city with an engaging buzz, shaped partly by its liberal attitudes and counter-culture but it is also a heavy weight when it comes to the world of art with more than its fair share of masterpieces at the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. Take time out to sip a coffee in one of the traditional, bare-floored brown cafés or one of the many designer bars or grand cafés. The 4* Grand Hotel in Amstelveen provides excellent value for money and good access into Amsterdam itself.

Plan My Trip

DAY 1 After joining your holiday coach, travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continue via the auto-routes of France, Belgium and Holland to your hotel for your 3-night stay. Bed & breakfast.

DAY 2 - 3 - At leisure in Amsterdam with a programme of optional excursions. There is a return transfer included into the centre of Amsterdam on one day for you to explore at leisure.

August Tour only - Set sail to Amsterdam 2020 and experience the 10th SAIL Tall Ships event in Amsterdam since 1975. One of Europe's largest nautical events which takes place every 5 years, roughly 600 ships sail through the 'Noordzeekanaal' to moor in and around the IJ-haven. Amsterdam will celebrate its sailing legacy with the prestigious line-up of Tall Ships from around the world moored at the quays of the beautiful capital city. Or join the Guided City Tour to learn more about this popular event.

Guided Amsterdam City Tour

Your coach will take you into the centre where you can explore at your leisure or alternatively stay aboard for the optional comprehensive guided city tour to see the many places of interest - such as the flea market, the floating flower market, the Royal Palace, the Rijksmuseum and the former Jewish quarter. There is also an optional guided tour of a diamond factory. There will be free time in the afternoon to visit museums and art galleries or maybe just enjoy the atmosphere of this beautiful city.

Volendam & The Polders

Pretty Volendam, something of an artists' retreat in the early 20th century, is a popular destination, known for its perky gables, picturesque harbour and local residents dressed in traditional costume. There will be an opportunity to visit a cheese farm and watch the skilled craftsmen making Dutch clogs. Finish the day at Zaanse Schaans, an unrivalled collection of windmills, barns and historic wooden houses brought from various parts of the country and reconstructed as an 18th century Dutch village

DAY 4 - After breakfast, we travel back through Belgium and France to Calais for our return to England.
