4* Christmas on the Kent Coast
Day 1 - After joining your weekend holiday coach, head to south to the coast with a stop at The Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel Le Ferne (time permitting). Pause while looking out to sea and imagine how it must have felt to watch wave after wave of Luftwaffe bombers heading this way during the conflict that changed history - and then visit the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall to see the names of the fewer than 3,000 RAF aircrew who took up the challenge. A replica Hurricane and Spitfire and busts of Sir Keith Park and Lord Dowding add to the attractions. Continue the short distance to Folkestone, with its traditional charms and rich maritime history plus plenty of metropolitan chic, to check in at 4* BW+ Burlington Hotel for 4 nights. Enjoy a welcome drinks reception with the hotel management team this evening before dinner. Don't forget to try and guess the weight of the Christmas Cake. There is live entertainment in the hotel each evening. DBB plus 3 lunchesDay 2 - Spend Christmas Eve morning in the beautiful medieval walled city of Canterbury which has been hosting visitors for more than 1,000 years - a warm welcome for any 'pilgrim' is guaranteed! It certainly tops the charts for English cathedral cities, with its World Heritage-listed cathedral one of Europe's finest (entrance not included). Explore the town's narrow medieval alleyways, riverside gardens and ancient city walls as well as its bustling centre full of independent and high street shops and plentiful restaurants and cosy cafés. Enjoy the last day of the fabulous Christmas Market in the stunning Cathedral Precincts as well as Whitefriars and St Georges. Immerse yourself in the festive ambience and explore the myriad of Christmas-themed stalls. The scent of mulled wine and hot chocolate, the delicious allure of festive treats, and the visual spectacle of handcrafted ornaments, unique gifts, and beautiful decorations are all part of the joy and sparkle of the holiday season. Head back to the hotel for a light lunch and time to relax in the hotel. Maybe take a stroll along The Leas or walk along the coastal path by the beach.
Day 3 - Merry Christmas! A relaxed start to Christmas Day before a visit from Santa and of course, a delicious traditional 3-course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. The King's Speech will be shown in the Bay Tree Bar at 15.00. Dinner this evening is a light buffet followed by live entertainment in the Premier Room.
Day 4 - After breakfast, take a Boxing Day scenic drive out along the Kent coastline. Blow the cobwebs away in Dungeness, described as Britain's only desert. Dungeness is another-worldly shingle promontory - home to a power station, a nature reserve and film-maker Derek Jarman's cottage. Return to the hotel by way of Hythe with its famous Royal Military Canal, built between 1804 and 1809 as a defence against invasion by Napoleon. A light lunch awaits in the hotel and an afternoon at leisure before your farewell dinner and entertainment this evening .
Day 5 - After breakfast head homewards with an en-route stop in Royal Tunbridge Wells, one of Georgian England's most fashionable destinations. The elegance and atmosphere of this bygone era remain today. Visit The Pantiles, the famous colonnaded walkway where the aristocracy once promenaded, and which is now home to a wonderful selection of high-quality boutiques, specialist independent shops, bars and cafés. Continue to interchange to arrive back in your hometowns early evening.
