DAY 2 - 3 At leisure with two included excursions

INCLUDED EXCURSIONS
Wells via Cheddar Gorge - Saturday
Journey through the Mendip Hills to drive through the famous Cheddar Gorge, a truly iconic natural gem, with its dramatic cliffs rising 450 ft.  Cheddar Gorge is not only one of Britain's most spectacular natural landmarks, but also a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the newly formed Mendip Hills National Landscape. Continue on to the tiny city of Wells. Saturday is market day (09.00 - 14.30) where you will find colourful stalls offering all types of fine foods, fruit and vegetables, clothing, leather goods and more. Be sure to visit the iconic Cathedral with its magnificent West Front and unique features including the beautiful 'scissor arches' supporting the central tower (admission applies). Adjoining the Cathedral is Vicars' Close, which is thought to be Europe's oldest continuously inhabited street. The uniquely moated medieval Bishop's Palace has been the home of the Bishops of Bath & Wells for over 800 years. Here you will find the ruins of the Great Hall, the Bishop's private chapel and 14 acres of beautiful and tranquil gardens (admission applies. Joint admission ticket (Cathedral & Bishop's Palace) available - approx. £22 pp in 2026)

Bristol & Cream Tea Harbour Cruise - Sunday
Spend the day at leisure to explore Bristol - you may even come across some of the murals and street art by one of the city's most notorious sons, Banksy!  The restored Harbourside area was once a busy dock where sailors and merchants would trade goods and set sail on voyages of discovery. Today it is an attractive, modern development filled with restaurants, bars and shops in the former 19th-century warehouses. The area buzzes with life and is a great place for a stroll along the water's edge and to Millennium Square with its fountains and world-class attractions. You may like to visit Brunel's ground-breaking SS Great Britain, one of the most important historic ships in the world and a template for all modern ships to come (entrance not included - approx. £22 pp in 2026 - pre-booking may be required). This afternoon, take in the sights and hear about Bristol's rich maritime history as you cruise through the Floating Harbour and up onto the rural stretches of the Avon while enjoying a delicious cream tea with all the trimmings afloat on a 2-hour Bristol Packet Boat Trip. NB there are several steps up and down to get on and off the boat and 6 steps on board (no wheelchair access).

DAY 4 - After a leisurely breakfast, drive to pretty Marlborough with its buzzing high street full of independent shops and various cafes, pubs and tea rooms. Its claim to fame is the well-known College, the public school whose illustrious alumni include Victorian designer William Morris and Catherine, Princess of Wales. Later continue homewards via interchange to arrive early to mid-evening. Back to top
