Pretty as a picture, the glorious Austrian Tyrol offers sparkling lakes, soaring snow-clad mountains, idyllic villages and beautiful lakeside towns. Based in the village of Achenkirch at the northern end of Achen Lake (the largest Alpine lake in the Tyrol) in a traditional, cosy, family-run hotel, this panoramic winter tour takes you through strikingly picturesque Alpine scenery. If you're looking for a fairytale wintertime escape packed full of adventures and inclusions, then this tour is just for you!

Your Itinerary
Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to France. Then continue via the auto-routes of France to your overnight stop in the Saarbruecken area. BB
Day 2 - The journey continues through Germany and then as the Alpine scenery unfolds, you cross the border into Austria and your hotel for your 5-night stay in the resort of Achenkirch. NB Porterage is not available at the hotel. There is a choice of main course for dinner with fixed starter and dessert (buffet). A welcome Schapps after dinner is included on arrival day. Self-service tea/coffee is included after dinner. There is Tyrolean buffet dinner during your stay DBB

Innsbruck & Swarovski Crystal World
Enjoy the charming capital of the Tyrol, Innsbruck, with its famous Little Golden Roof. 'Alpine-urban' Innsbruck is bursting with cultural treasures, traditional charm and cosmopolitan appeal. The Karwendal Alps form an impressive backdrop to Innsbruck's pretty traffic-free streets, ideal for discovering treasures such as the Hofburg, a cream-and-pistachio imperial palace from the mighty Austrian-Hungarian empire days; the Hofkirche, a masterpiece of renaissance Church architecture and some great cafes and shopping amongst the pretty streets (entrances not included). An orientation tour together with a local English-speaking guide is included.
Then head to nearby Wattens and the sparkling Swarovski Crystal World with its extensive grounds and 'Chambers of Wonder'. Going far beyond a traditional museum, the installation is a walk-through fantasy realm where art and technology merge in unexpected ways. At its centre stands the iconic 17-metre-high giant figure and the chambers are filled with crystal magic from minimalist light installations to lavish pop aesthetics.
Carriage Ride, Glass Blowing & Mayrhofen
Take a scenic drive along the shores of Lake Achen to Pertisau for a delightful horse-drawn carriage ride before heading to Rattenberg, Austria's smallest town, with just 400 inhabitants and a wonderfully preserved medieval pedestrianised centre, dominated by unique displays of glass- and crystal ware in the shop windows. Kisslinger Kristall Glas, located in the town, has been producing fine glassware since 1820 and you will learn more about glass blowing, cutting and engraving with a video and short demo. This afternoon travel to the bustling ski resort of Mayrhofen, located at 630m in the upper Zillertal, where the spire of the pretty pink and white parish church dominates the centre. Enjoy free time here to soak up the winter atmosphere, the views and the town's wonderful architecture which reflects centuries of mountain life,
Lake Achen Boat Trip
Enjoy a coach-free day today to relax in resort. Lake Achen was created by huge glaciers 20,000 years ago, and nestles between the towering peaks of the Karwendel and Rofan mountains. A round trip cruise on the lake is included from Scholastika (just a short walk from the hotel) to popular Pertisau and back (approx. 90 mins round trip). The modern boats are heated with a snack bar and toilets on board. Austrian cake and coffee will be served in the hotel on the afternoon of your free day.
Kitzbuhel and the Wildschoenau Valley
Enjoy free time in the world-famous resort of fashionable Kitzbuhel with its glorious setting nestled between the Kitzbuhler Horn and the Hahnenkamm. Its charming medieval pedestrianised centre has a relaxed, take your time atmosphere and offers a wealth of cafes, restaurants and interesting shops, ideal for picking up a few souvenirs. There will be time for lunch before returning to the hotel via Auffach in the Wildschoenau Valley. Here you will be able to visit the Tyrolean Wood Museum. With over 3000 exhibits displayed in wooden chambers, the owner has created a marvellous world of wood!
Day 7 - Farewell to Austria today as you head northwards to the final overnight stop in France. BB.
Day 8 - After breakfast, travel back through France to Calais for the return to England.

European countries using the EES will introduce the system gradually at their external borders.
This means that data collection will be gradually introduced at border crossing points with full implementation by 10 April 2026

Accommodation
3* Hotel Fischerwirt am Achensee
This traditional Tyrolean style hotel is family run and is surrounded by forested mountains at the northern tip of Achen Lake just 400m from the lake shore.
Bedrooms offer comfortable furnishings, wooden decor, flatscreen TV, hair dryer, and many have a balcony / terrace. All rooms have walk-in showers (with a step into the cubicle). Twin rooms are traditional Austrian twins (two mattresses on one bed frame). Single rooms are true singles (no balcony and at the rear of the hotel).
The restaurant serves fresh, local specialities and there is a cosy bar as well as a large outdoor terrace / garden.
There is a lift to all floors with some rooms accessible via a couple of internal steps. As with many continental hotels, there are no tea / coffee making facilities in the guestrooms. NB porterage is not available at this hotel
