The mighty Rhine meanders between hillside castles and steep terraced vineyards - around every bend an idyllic village with its half-timbered houses and Gothic church steeples. This tour has its base in the heart of the popular resort of Rüdesheim, right on the banks of the Rhine. Its pretty houses, cosy wine cellars and cobbled streets lend it an undeniable charm. Here you can visit the 16th century Drosselgasse, which is packed with wine bars and traditional German music and view this land made of cosy riverside villages and hilltop castles from the riverbanks.

Your Itinerary
Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach head to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continuing via the auto-routes of France, Belgium and Germany to arrive late in Rüdesheim for your 4 night stay with breakfast and dinner. Late night snack on arrival.Day 2 - 4 - At leisure in Rüdesheim with two included excursions and a full day at leisure. From your centrally located hotel, you can easily explore the town on your free day. See the world-famous Drosselgasse with its cosy, traditional wine taverns and historic half-timbered houses, take a riverside stroll or sample the local cuisine and meet the locals. Approx. 10 mins' walk from the hotel is the Vinothek RheinWeinWelt, housed in the former Asbach Brandy distillery. Here you can sample many different wines from local wine growers in the cellars (some steps), you simply purchase tokens and then gently stroll with your tasting glass and select the wines you wish to sample!

Circular Tour by Cable Car, Chair Lift & Boat
Start your day with a trip on a cable car (just a few minutes' walk from the hotel) for the 10 minute ride up to the Niederwald Monument, gliding over vineyards en-route. The 38 metre high Niederwald Monument with its statue of 'Germania' was built in memory of the Franco-German War and the resulting German Empire 1877 to 1883. Take time to explore the monument and enjoy the wonderful views across the Rhine, you may also like take advantage of the cafe facilties nearby. You then embark on approx. 20 minute (mostly flat) walk - a longer sightseeing route of one hour is also possible - to the chairlift station for the gentle ride down to Assmannshausen, a red-wine growing village with plenty of places for refreshments. From here you walk a few minutes down to the river to Pier No 3 to board a boat. Cruise along the Rhine, past the old toll tower, through the Bingen Loch and back to Rüdesheim (approx. 40 mins).

Scenic Rhine Discovery
Enjoy a day out to discover some of the highlights of this magical region. From Rüdesheim your coach will take you along the UNESCO World Heritage Middle Rhine Valley, the most dramatic part of the river as it cuts deeply through the hills. Pass by fairytale castles, steep forested hillsides and romantic riverside villages. Stop in picturesque little Bacharach, overlooked by the12th century fortified castle of Stahleck and the ancient ruins of the Gothic Werner chapel. Drive on for views of the legendary Loreley, where boatsmen were said to have been lured to their death by her haunting song and enchanting beauty. Stop off in Sankt Goar before your final visit of the day to one of the Romantic Rhine's prettiest towns, Boppard. Located on the bend in the Rhine, Boppard has a wonderful riverside promenade just waiting to be explored.
Day 5 - Early start today as you travel back through Germany, Belgium and France to Calais for the return to England. Back to top
