Your Itinerary

DAY 1 - Travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais, then continue to Germany via the auto-routes of France and Belgium and onto Remagen. It will be a late arrival at the hotel this evening where a light supper awaits. Supper, bed & breakfast

DAY 2 - 6 - At leisure in Remagen with three included excursions. Dinner, bed & breakfast
During your leisure time, you may be interested to visit the Peace Museum, housed in one of the surviving basalt towers of the famous bridge, where visitors can learn about Remagen's pivotal role in WW2.

Konigswinter & Drachenfels Railway
Drive to the riverside resort town of Königswinter, located at the foot of the Drachenfels (Dragon Rock) mountain. Surrounded by vineyards, this is a wine town boasting one of the most beautiful Rhine promenades in the region. From here you will take a 1.5km ride up to the legendary Drachenfels on Germany's oldest rack railway which has been operating since 1883. Enjoy the comfortable ascent which takes you 220 metres up an incline of (in parts) 22% to admire the breathtaking views of the romantic Rhine Valley from the summit of the 321m high mountain. Once back down continue to Linz to spend time in the 'colourful town on the Rhine' with its cobbled alleyways, pretty timbered houses and Linz castle.

Vulkan Express & Koblenz
A ride on the privately owned, narrow gauge Vulkan Express is a very special experience. Although named 'express', it is actually a rather slow moving train which takes 90 minutes to travel 11 miles  up the Brohl Valley into the volcanic Eifel mountains. So there is time to relax and take in the beautiful scenery such as the volcanic Laach Lake formed millions of years ago. The line opened in 1902 and re-opened in 1953 after it was closed during WW2. Your coach awaits in Engeln to continue on to Koblenz, famous for its 'German Corner', the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. One of the oldest towns in Germany, Koblenz was founded by the Romans as a military stronghold due to its supreme strategic importance. The mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress towers above the town at 118m above the river.

The Valley of the Red Grape by Train
A full day out hosted by the hotel owner starts with a train ride from Remagen station (directly opposite the hotel) through the steep wine terraces on an air-conditioned diesel trains along the pretty Ahr Valley. Stop in the picturesque town of Altenahr located in a narrow part of the valley before travelling back one stop to Mayschoß. Here you will enjoy a horse-drawn covered wagon ride through the vineyards of the oldest wine growers' co-operative in the world, followed by a tour of the wine cellars, a tasting of three wines (including the excellent Pinot Noir red wine) and a light lunch of local cold cuts and cheese. This afternoon, continue your Ahr odyssey to the lovely medieval walled city of Ahrweiler for some free time. NB The itinerary for this excursion is subject to change and confirmation due to ongoing repair and construction work after the devasting floods in the Ahr Valley in the summer of 2021

Rhine River Cruise
During your stay, your driver will be able to offer you the opportunity to take a Rhine River cruise.  Please ask your Driver for details.

DAY 7 - An early start takes you back to Calais and the return ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening. Back to top
