As the leaves start to change colour and burst into a riot of russets, bright yellows, rustic reds and oranges, there is no better place to be than in the heart of Scotland. Based in Victorian Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire, the highlight of this wonderful getaway is an included visit to the award-winning sound and light show at Faskally Wood back after an absence of two years. DAY 1 - A morning departure as you head north with suitable refreshment stops en-route. Overnight across the border in Dumfries at 3* Cairndale Hotel with dinner, bed & breakfast.
DAY 2 - Continue your journey via the motorway to the extraordinary Kelpies, two gigantic horse heads, standing almost a hundred feet high, designed by Scottish sculptor, Andy Scott . A major feat of engineering and design, enjoy a brief guided walking (flat) tour and see a Kelpie from the inside to marvel at the complexity which created these amazing pieces of art. Continue to Pitlochry to check-in for your 2-night stay at 3* Fishers Hotel. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
DAY 3 - A Royal tour today with a lovely drive through the Vale of Strathmore to Glamis Castle and Gardens, the beloved childhood home of the Queen Mother. Steeped in history, this stunning architectural treasure is full of legendary tales and secrets brought to life by a knowledgeable tour guide. Finish the outing on a royal note back in Pitlochry with a stop at 'Queens View' at the head of Loch Tummel, the classic and much photographed viewpoint where Queen Victoria picnicked in 1866. Early dinner this evening and then wrap up warm for the evening visit to the award-winning Enchanted Forest at Faskally Wood, a dazzling outdoor sound and light show set against a stunning autumn woodland setting, back after an absence of two years. The event is designed for all ages and abilities to enjoy with the walk around the forest approximately 1.8km.
DAY 4 - Head south today after a full Scottish breakfast with a stop just outside the city of Perth for a visit to Scone Palace, the site where Scottish Kings including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce were crowned. The grand Gothic palace has a colourful and exciting history as one of Scotland's most important stately homes and houses an outstanding collection of antiques, paintings and rare artefacts. The magnificent open gardens are as stunning as the palace itself. Continue to your overnight stop in the Newcastle area at 3* Holiday Inn Newcastle - Gosforth Park. Dinner, bed & breakfast
