Itinerary

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, head north stopping for a visit to the magnificent National Memorial Arboretum, the UK's year-round centre of Remembrance, which comprises 150 acres of 25,000 trees and a large collection of nearly 400 memorials. It is home to the iconic Armed Forces Memorial which remembers those who have given their lives since the end of WWII. A road train usually operates at the NMA for a tour of the site (subject to availability with small charge payable direct on the day). Continue to your hotel close to Sheffield to arrive in time to freshen up for dinner. 3 nights DBB

Day 2 - This morning head through the Peak District National Park to lovely Buxton where you have the morning at leisure to explore. Set in the rolling hills of Derbyshire, Buxton's fortunes were built on its natural water springs which attracted health tourists at the turn of the century. Today, visitors can enjoy the flamboyant Regency architecture, Georgian terraces and manicured parks. Saturday is market day adding colour to the grey limestone marketplace.  Then it is time to take your seats for the matinee performance of the Military Tattoo. The setting is the breath-taking Devonshire Dome, a magnificent 18th century stable block, originally built to house horses and servants, and is the perfect venue to experience the close-up action of the bands whilst being protected from the vagaries of the British weather! Head back to the hotel after the performance.

Day 3 - Enjoy a relaxed scenic drive today through the High Peak District, a world of contrasting natural beauty, with moors and dales, rivers, springs and cavern. Make a stop in Castleton, one of the most beautifully situated villages in the White Peak. Lying in the lee of mysterious Mam Tor, locally known as the 'Shivering Mountain', as you approach the village from Hope Valley, you'll appreciate the fabulous views created by its location on the cusp of the Peak District's breath-taking limestone and gritstone landscapes. Head up to the tranquil Ladybower Reservoir, the large Y-shaped reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley, at the heart of the Peak District National Park. Work began on the reservoir in 1935 and during construction, the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were flooded. It was officially opened by King George VI on 24th September 1945. Then (weather permitting) it's over the dramatic Snake Pass, one of the 'best drives in England' at 510m above sea level, engineered by Thomas Telford and opened in 1821. Onward via the handsome market town of Glossop before heading back to the hotel passing Torside Reservoir, the largest man-made lake in Longdendale, constructed in 1849 by John Frederick Bateman as a part of the chain supplying water to urban areas of Greater Manchester.

Day 4 - After breakfast depart for the journey home, making a stop en-route in ever popular Stratford-Upon-Avon, the town synonymous with William Shakespeare with more than 800 years of history.  Head back to interchange to arrive home early to mid-evening. Back to top
