Shake off the winter blues with this perfect getaway which combines a beautiful Italian escape on the shores of stunning Lake Garda with a visit to the unforgettable city of Venice during Carnival time. Each February Venice erupts with colour during the world-famous Carnival when its quaint streets of higgledy-piggledy buildings and spectacular palaces are filled with revellers, many dressed in costumes and masks to celebrate the run up to Shrove Tuesday. There will be plenty of time to explore and enjoy the pretty resort of Riva del Garda, located at the north point of Lake Garda, the dramatic end of the lake where mountains rise steeply on either side and Riva sits on the shore with a backdrop of water, valley and hills. An included day out to the beautiful Roman city of Verona completes this very special departure and your Tour Manager will be with you throughout to ensure you don’t miss a thing!

Your Itinerary

DAY 1 – From your chosen joining point, your feeder vehicle will take you to the designated interchange point where your holiday begins. After joining your holiday coach, you will travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continue to your overnight hotel stop. Bed and breakfast.

DAY 2 – A big travel day today, so sit back and relax on your journey via Germany and Austria. The mountain scenery begins to unfold on the way through into Italy over the Brenner Pass en-route to Riva del Garda, your holiday base for the next five nights. Your holiday price includes porterage, a welcome drink, dinner each evening including a Gala set dinner one evening with live music. Dinner, bed & breakfast.

DAY 3 – DAY 6 – At leisure in Riva del Garda with two included excursions. The hotel is centrally located in Riva del Garda so there will be plenty of opportunity to explore. Enjoy a stroll along the lakeside promenade or saunter through the beautifully preserved, pedestrianised Citta Vecchia (Old Town) but don’t forget to wrap up as it can be quite cool and breezy at this time of year.

Venice at Carnival Time – Costume & Colour
An early start today for the drive to Venice to soak up the magical atmosphere of the world-famous carnival. Expect the meandering paths and winding canals to be buzzing with excitement as people flit by in elaborate 18th century costumes. The Venice Carnival is thought to date back to 13th century and nowadays it is the city’s biggest party of the year – an open-air costume extravaganza attracting visitors from all over the world. Enjoy the day’s festivities and the sights from the ancient and famous city of canals to St. Mark’s Square, from the Doge’s Palace to the Bridge of Sighs. From the coach park there you will make your way into Venice by boat. (NB: Due to the historic nature of the city, this excursion is not suitable for wheelchair and mobility vehicle users).

Romeo & Juliet’s Verona
Journey to the magnificent old city of Verona, famous for Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Bordered on three sides by the River Adige, the streets of Verona’s ancient centre follow the layout of the Roman city. Upon arrival you may either explore the city on your own or join the optional guided city tour by coach and then on foot.

Desenzano Market Day & Sirmione
Explore the beautiful little market town of Desenzano at the southern tip of the lake. With a calm, friendly and romantic atmosphere and a wonderful lakefront, this is an ideal place to spend some free time at the Tuesday Market. Continue to Sirmione, one of Garda's most popular resorts which juts out several miles into the southern waters of the lake on a narrow peninsula of cypress and olive groves. Your tour manager may offer an optional boat trip from Desenzano to Sirmione subject to availability and seasonal timetables.

DAY 7 - It’s farewell to Lake Garda today as you head northwards to your final overnight hotel near Saarbrücken in Germany. Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 8 - An early start and it’s off to Calais after breakfast for the return crossing to England.
