Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Head to Dover and cross the channel to Calais to travel southwards to the Picardy region to arrive for 3 nights at the Château de Montvillargenne on the outskirts of Chantilly, near the famous racecourse. Dinner each evening is a fine dining set menu served in a private dining room and includes a ¼ bottle of wine, mineral water and coffee.

Day 2 - Meaux Head to one of France's Towns of Art and History, Meaux. Famous for its Brie (there is even a Brie Museum) and the remarkable Museum of the Great War, the biggest in Europe, inaugurated in 2011. The historic centre of Meaux, a former episcopal city, has a wealth of well-preserved heritage including the Gothic Cathedral and Bossuet Art Museum and formal gardens, housed in a bishop's former residence (no entrances included). Head back to Chantilly, elegant and compact, for some time to explore the town.

Day 3 - Les Journees des Plantes A full day to browse the exhibits and stalls of nurseries, horticulturists and professionals from the plant trade. Visitors can expect everything from orchids to carnivorous plants via perennials, garden accessories, workshops and advice - everything to delight gardening enthusiasts. All this is set against the backdrop of the magnificent Domaine de Chantilly with the famous Château at its heart, one of the finest jewels in the crown of France's cultural heritage. Your ticket includes entrance to the Château itself which contains the largest collection of antique paintings outside the Louvre. You can also visit the Museum of the Horse housed within the Great Stables complex. The gardens include a French styled garden with its mirrors of water and numerous fountains, an Anglo-Chinese and a 19th century English garden, all beautifully landscaped. There is a land train which offers a 40-minute tour of the grounds and gardens (additional fee applies - approx. €5 in 2018). Head back the short distance to your own Château hotel this afternoon.

Day 4 - After breakfast, head back to Calais for the return crossing to England. Onto interchange and your home towns by mid-evening.

Please note that whilst the paths around the Domain de Chantilly are quite flat, that the day does involve a reasonable amount of walking including from the coach park to the entrance. Comfortable footwear is strongly advised.
