Itinerary
Itinerary
Day 1: We make our way through France and into Germany for our overnight stay in Saarbrücken.
Day 2: Departing after breakfast we arrive at the delightful Bon Alpina hotel. After a traditional, friendly welcome, enjoy a guided walk through the charming town of Igls, followed by a warming glühwein. Embracing the spirit of Christmas there will be musical entertainment and dancing after dinner this evening.
Day 3: Today our remarkable Christmas journey truly begins with a visit to the Swarovski Crystal World. Opened in 1995 to mark centennial anniversary of the crystal glass manufacturer, this uniquely spectacular attraction is a joy to experience at any time of the year and is even more magical at Christmas. Wander through the picturesque gardens and marvel at the Chambers of Wonder, experiencing the beauty of crystals in all their facets with dazzling themed installations from internationally renowned artists, designers and architects. We will enjoy a warming 2-course lunch at the end of our visit before returning to our hotel for some free time. Later this afternoon, rejoice in the town’s annual Christmas celebration where 200 angels, shepherds and animals accompany a sleigh carrying Mary, Joseph and the Jesus from the old town through the village centre. With local musicians and choirs performing festive songs this enchanting evening is guaranteed to immerse you in Christmas spirit.
Day 4: Christmas Eve. After breakfast this morning we make the short journey to Innsbruck, the capital city of Tyrol and stunningly beautiful at Christmas. With a sparkling sea of twinkling lights, brightly coloured stalls nestled between medieval buildings and intoxicating aromas, it’s a feast for senses. Austrian Turmbläser (brass bands) play traditional Christmas music from the infamous Golden Roof, giving the market a truly magical feel. Take a wander down Kiebachgasse which is transformed into a page straight from the storybooks with fairytale characters adorning the facades, bay windows and gables. Perhaps travel to the top of Innsbruck and take the Nordkette cable car from the city centre to Austria’s largest nature park. In just eight minutes enjoy breathtaking 360 degree views with the capital of the Alps on one side and Karwendel Nature Park on the other. At our hotel this evening we will enjoy a festive celebration of music with carols and poems.
Day 5: Christmas Day. Frohe Weihnacten! We wake up to a picture-perfect backdrop of snow-capped mountains and enjoy a hearty breakfast. This morning is at leisure to celebrate Christmas as you wish, whether enjoying your own traditions, opening presents or taking a walk through the beautiful town. We enjoy a delicious traditional 3-course Christmas Lunch before relaxing at the hotel this afternoon. Maybe make use of the hotels leisure facilities or switch off from it all in the comfortable lounge before enjoying dinner this evening.
Day 6: Boxing Day. This morning we enjoy a one-hour horse drawn sleigh ride through the stunning Tyrolean landscapes and take in the breathtaking beauty and enchanting ambience that can only be found in the mountains. After our journey we take a scenic drive to the lively ski resort of St Anton for some lunch and to experience the vibrancy and frivolity of this Austrian town full of lively bars and great shopping. Enjoy a hearty and warming bowl of Hungarian Goulash, a popular meal of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, followed by traditional Apfelstrudel. After lunch there will be free time to meander through the pretty streets of this traditional Tyrolean Village which is surrounded on all sides by spectacular snowcapped mountains and beautifully decorated for Christmas with twinkling lights and trees.
Day 7: After a delicious breakfast we say Auf Weidersehen to our hosts and a dreamlike Christmas never to be forgotten as we begin our return journey, making an overnight stop in Saarbrucken.
