Day 2: Cheshire: This morning we visit Lyme Park, the film location for ‘Pemberley’, the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth, which has made it one of the most famous country-house images in England. On the edge of the Peak District, nestling within sweeping moorland, Lyme Park is a magnificent estate. We will discover a colourful family history, from rescuing the Black Prince and sailing into exile with the Duke of Windsor, to the writing of the hit series Upstairs Downstairs. We return to our hotel to relax and unwind before dinner.
Day 3: Derbyshire: Today we visit fabulous Chatsworth House in the heart of the Peak District. Chatsworth House is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house is famed for its diverse art and breath-taking landscapes. In the 18th century, the iconic landscape covering 1000 acres was designed by the world-renowned landscape designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
Before returning to our hotel we head to the traditional market town of Bakewell, fame for its Bakewell Puddings!
Day 4: Staffordshire:
This morning we make our way to the World of Wedgwood, a unique visitor experience which celebrates the very best of British industrial design and heritage. We take a factory tour to learn about all aspects of production and techniques. We can trace 250 years of design and production in the museum and discover the story of Josiah Wedgwood and his lasting influence on industry, society and local infrastructure, and of course there will be time to make a purchase in the flagship store of Factory Outlet before we leave. Our visit will include a cream tea.
After our visit we will travel to nearby Trentham Gardens to spend a peaceful afternoon. We can enjoy the splendour of the contemporary Italian Garden, meander through the Floral Labyrinth and Rivers of Grass or take a woodland walk around the Capability Brown designed mile-long lake and see if we can spot any of the enchanting fairies or giant dandelion sculptures.
Day 5: Today we bid farewell to the beautiful Peak District and head for home.
