Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1: We arrive at our delightful spa hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2: Today we enjoy a journey of exploration and sightseeing. We start by boarding an historic steam train in Paignton and experience one of finest rail trips in the country along the coast of Torbay. Travelling through stunning Devon countryside with breath-taking views of the coastline, we arrive in Kingswear and take a short foot passenger ferry crossing across the River Dart before embarking on a 1-hour circular cruise. Sit back, relax and take in the spectacular scenery, pretty villages and historic sites such Dartmouth Castle, the impressive Royal Britannia Naval College and Greenway House. Agatha Christie’s home from 1938 to 1976, the House featured in several of her novels and was described as “the most perfect” of houses on the River Dart. At the end of the voyage, we retrace our steps to board our train and return to Paignton.

Day 3: Today is at leisure to do as much or as little as you would like. Switch off from it all at our beautiful hotel and relax in the sun in the peaceful gardens. Explore the thriving seaside resort of Torquay with its bustling marina, palm tree lined streets and stunning beaches. While away the afternoon and enjoy a bite to eat and drink at one of the numerous cafes, restaurants and bars or enjoy some retail therapy at the town’s excellent selection of shops. Alternatively you can chose to travel back through 400 million years of time at the fascinating Torquay Museum or visit Britain’s oldest known prehistoric home at Kents Cavern with its extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caves.

Day 4: This morning we visit Buckfast Abbey, home to a working community of Benedictine Monks, perched in the shadow of Dartmoor and surrounded by a beautiful wooded valley. At the heart of the monastery is the Abbey Church with its dramatic lantern ceiling and art treasures. Enjoy the extensive grounds including the Sensory, Physic and award winning Millennium Gardens. A highlight during the summer months is the Lavender Garden, a haven of tranquillity, boasting 50 varieties of this soothing and colourful flower. Following our visit, we travel to the charming town of Brixham with free time to explore the pretty, vibrant harbour and have some lunch. After savouring the ambience of this delightful fishing port we return to Torquay on the Western Lady Ferry from Brixham to Torquay, admiring the panoramic views of the English Riviera as we sail.

Day 5: After breakfast, we make our way home.
