Itinerary

Day 1: We arrive at the contemporary Holiday Inn Leicester hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2: After a delicious breakfast we make our way to the charming market town of Stamford, widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England. The pretty facades of the town are favourites among film and television producers and Stamford has featured in many productions including Pride & Prejudice, the Da Vinci Code and The Crown. Explore the narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards which are home to a variety of speciality shops, fine jewellers and designer boutiques. This afternoon we make our way to the impressive Belton Estate. The stunning 17^th-century mansion features lavishly decorated rooms with intricate carvings and Chinese hand-painted wallpaper, fine art, silver and ceramics. The beautifully maintained formal gardens are of Dutch and Italian design with impressive planting, lush foliage and exotic blooms. The surrounding parkland are a haven for the herd of approximately 350 fallow deer that are free to roam the 1,300 estate.

Day 3: Our day begins with a visit to the award-winning King Richard III Visitor Centre which charts the story of the King’s life and death. Uncover the fascinating history of one of the greatest archaeological detective stories ever told and learn how amazing evidence gathering resulted in the discovery of the long-lost remains of Richard III, beneath a car park in Leicester. Our day continues with a visit to Leicester Guildhall one of the best-preserved timber framed halls in the country and the oldest building still in use in the city.  This afternoon, we have free time in the historic market town of Melton Mowbray. Famous for its pork pie and specialty cheeses, there will be time to stroll through medieval streets, visit independent shops and enjoy some of the best local produce in the country.

Day 4: This morning we take a leisurely drive to Barnsdale Gardens. Created by the legendary Geoff Hamilton, of BBC Gardners World fame, Barnsdale Gardens comprises of 38 individual gardens across an 8-acre site. With an inspiring range of original design and planting schemes the gardens are full of colour, imagination and tranquillity. From the Japanese Garden, with its calm and holistic feel to the mediterranean garden with brightly coloured succulents and flowers, Barnsdale Gardens is a testament to the joy of gardening. This afternoon, we embark on a relaxing cruise across Rutland Water Reservoir, the largest man-made lake in the UK, covering over four square miles. This outstanding haven for wildlife, with its network of lagoons and wetlands provides sanctuary for water birds, birds of prey and woodland wildlife and we enjoy the beautiful scenery whilst savouring a delicious cream tea.

Day 5: After breakfast this morning, we begin our journey home.
