Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1: We take a leisurely drive to Eastbourne making a lunch stop en route in Hastings. One of the medieval Cinque Ports, the remains of William Conqueror’s first English castle still stand in Hastings and boasts the most spectacular views in Sussex. There will be time to explore the meandering alleyways in the old town, with a mix of half-timbered houses, narrow streets and an abundance of history, before we continue our journey to Eastbourne and the delightful Langham Hotel.

Day 2: This morning, we visit Herstmonceaux Castle, a 15th century moated castle with beautiful red-brick walls, a huge drawbridge and fairytale turrets. Set in over 600 acres of woodland, wildflower meadows and formal gardens there will be free to explore the Grade II listed castle and its magnificent grounds, at leisure.  This afternoon we take a nostalgic journey back in time as we head to Bluebell Railway, one of the first preserved heritage lines in the country. Sit back and relax on the vintage steam train travelling through the beautiful East and West Sussex countryside on a one-way journey from Sheffield Park station to East Grinstead.

Day 3: Today is at leisure to explore this elegant Victorian town. The perfect seaside escape, full of beauty with its coastal landmarks at Beachy Head and the world-famous Seven Sisters. Immerse yourselves in a variety of heritage and cultural attractions, stroll along the pristine palm-lined promenade with its iconic pier or enjoy the splendid Victorian architecture and glorious seafront gardens. With great shopping, an abundance of eateries and, of course, traditional fish and chips, there is so much to enjoy in Eastbourne.

Day 4: This morning, we begin our return journey home and make a lunch stop en route in Rye.  The fortified hilltop town was once surrounded by sea, and played an important role in the defence of the south coast of England. There’s an opportunity to explore the enchanting cobbled streets, secret passages and beautifully preserved houses from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. After our visit we continue our way home.
