Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1: This morning we make our way to Weymouth and our friendly hotel arriving in time to relax before dinner.

Day 2: Our first excursion today takes us to the unique Abbotsbury Swannery, the world’s only managed colony of nesting Mute Swans. Located behind Chesnil Beach, the large saline lake of Fleet Lagoon is home to these majestic birds.  Established by the Benedictine Monks in the 1040’s and now one of Dorset’s most popular wildlife sites a visit to the Swannery is a special and unique experience. This afternoon we make our way to Dorchester, Dorset’s county town and the birthplace of world famous author and poet Thomas Hardy. The town enjoys a rich history dating back as far as the Iron Age and is home to fascinating museums and a bustling high street. Dorchester is also the ideal place for tasty treats with everything from cream teas and local delis, to international cuisine and well-known restaurants.

Day 3: We spend a relaxing day in Weymouth, one of the UK’s most beautiful seaside resorts with a fine Georgian seafront, esplanade and impressive golden sands. Take a stroll around the picturesque old harbour area, with its rich history and 17th century waterfront. Visit Brewer’s Quay, formerly known as the Devonshire Brewery but now houses over 120 retailers selling a wide variety of items including antiques, locally made arts and crafts, retro goods and high quality, locally sourced and produced Cornish food. Spend some time at the Sea Life Centre, and discover sea turtles, sharks, jellyfish and so much more. Sea Life Weymouth is spread over 5 acres of land and has the largest man-made rock pool in the country. You could of course just sit and relax, enjoy the views and watch the world go by.

Day 4: This morning we enjoy a relaxing cruise from Poole Harbour around the eastern tip of the Jurassic Coast arriving at the Victorian seaside resort of Swanage. We disembark at Swanage Pier, one of only 14 remaining timber piers in the country. We have free time to explore this beautiful traditional seaside resort. Perhaps discover some of the unique shops selling locally made arts and crafts or maybe grab a bite to eat before making our way to the railway station and embarking on a six-mile scenic journey with the award-winning Swanage Steam Railway travelling through picturesque Purbeck to the Village of Corfe Castle. Explore the ruins of Corfe Castle or visit one of the many tearooms, traditional pubs or cafes in this picturesque village before returning to Swanage by train and sailing back along the magnificent chalk formations to Poole Harbour.

Day 5: Today we say our goodbyes and begin our journey home.
