Aberdeen is rich in history from its maritime past. It's where the harbour meets the city centre and is famous for its stunning architecture and ancient charm. It’s also known as the ‘Granite City’ and is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Aberdeenshire, with its forests, mountains and attractive coastline. The locally quarried grey granite can be found sparkling within buildings, as the sun catches the glittering mica crystals.
A visit to this beautiful area is like taking a walk through history with so many interesting places to explore.
Banffshire Coast
Banffshire Coast According to National Geographic, the Banffshire Coast is one of the world’s outstanding coastlines. You will find beautifully preserved 17th, 18th and 19th century harbours with rich histories and pretty fishing villages perched on clifftops. All is sky and sea first, then rugged cliffs and sandy bays come into view followed by a string of quaint villages and seaside towns. Enjoy time in historic Banff, beautifully located on the north coast of Scotland on Banff Bay promising fine examples of Georgian architecture. Banff is home to the former royal Banff Castle, a pre-reformation cross and a fine Biggar Fountain. We also allow time in charming Macduff, separated from Banff by a pretty seven-arch bridge over the River Deveron. The heart of Macduff revolves around the harbour where freshly caught seafood can be purchased from local fishmongers and traditional fish and chip shops. A jewel of Madcuff is the Macduff Marine Aquarium where you can learn about local wildlife and come face to face with a variety of species of sea creatures that live in the steely depths of the Moray Firth.UK Holiday Insurance
