This beautiful coastline is dotted with pretty villages and harbours, and the local sea renowned for its pods of dolphins. Aberdeen, Scotland’s third biggest city, with its stunning sparking granite buildings is a city of contrast, the historic cobbled streets of the old town, a new shopping mall, the delightful fishing quarter and beautiful sandy beach with fun fair. Banff and Macduff separated by a seven arch bridge over the Rive Devron, have very different histories which are still reflected in the architecture today, Banff was a trading port, the grand Georgian buildings in the upper town testament to this. The fishing port of Macduff is still very much in use today and the pretty bustling harbour is still the ideal place to spend some time. Fraserburgh was the home to Scotland’s first mainland lighthouse, which began operating in 1787, it is now open to the public for tours and there is also a museum which allows you to experience how tough life used to be for lighthouse keepers. With its impressive grey stone buildings and pretty esplanade, it is easy to see why Fraserburgh has been popular with visitors for such a long time.
