At the very heart of the county lies the beautiful town of Donegal itself, situated at the mouth of the River Eske and tranquil Donegal Bay, where you can enjoy majestic views of the coastline and Blue Stack Mountains for the waterbus. In Donegal you can also discover the unique rectangular design of Donegal Castle, the 15th century seat of the O’Donnell Chieftans, and the remains of the Fransiscan Abbey that lies in the bay.

The town’s high street lays claim to being one of the longest in Ireland, and is lined with a mix of pastel coloured buildings which house independent shops, high street stores and pubs. The town’s impressive cathedral of St Eunan’s, dominates the skyline and boasts a beautifully proportioned structure that has a striking Gothic appearance built from Mountcharles stone.
