The traditional seaside town of Folkestone has been quietly transforming itself, the old town has morphed into a stunning creative quarter, with artists workshops, galleries and cafes. The fantastic mile long Leas promenade now features a World War One Memorial Arch in honour of the eight million soldiers who passed through Folkestone on their way into battle and 27 Artworks have also appeared around the town commissioned by celebrated artists such as Tracey Emin and Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger. The beautiful Lower Leas Coastal Park features play areas and wild gardens which encourage the local wildlife to visit, a wonderful oasis just a short walk from the town centre.
The Kent & East Sussex Railway winds delightfully through the rural countryside, commencing at the pretty Tenderten Town, and travelling through the beautiful Rother Valley, crossing rivers, through farmland for over 10 miles arriving in at the beautifully restored station at Bodiam.
Set in 500 acres of parkland and beautiful gardens, for almost 900 years this breath-taking castle has been home to Kings, Queens and nobility, once home to Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon the castle has undergone many transformations, visit the Gatehouse Exhibition to be taken on a fascinating journey of the history using original artefacts, illustrations and films.
