Blackpool Illuminations
Blackpool IlluminationsAlthough Blackpool remains a popular destination all year round, it famously springs to life September to January. The Blackpool Illuminations annual lighting extravaganza sees over one million light bulbs dazzle along the seafront for almost six miles and attracts over three million people each year.
Blackpool Illuminations started out as a small-scale decoration scheme with 10,000 lights to mark Blackpool’s first royal visit in 1912. So popular was the display that it was decided that the event should be staged every year to attract visitors to the resort after the main summer season.
It has now become an intrinsic part of British culture and has grown into one of the UK’s biggest attractions and the largest free light show in the world, attracting over 3.5million visitors annually!
So, grab your big coats and woolly hats, candy floss and sugared doughnuts, and prepare to marvel at this dazzling display of light.
