Dominated by Inverness Castle, Inverness is situated on the banks of the River Ness, the castle is the towns’ courthouse so is not open to visitors, but to find out more about the city’s history the modern Inverness Museum & Art Gallery is the ideal place to visit. The beautiful Inverness Cathedral and the Old High Church are both situated on the edge of the river and a stroll between each is a delightful way to see the town, there is also a shopping centre with a plethora of stores and a traditional high street with stores to fulfil all your shopping needs. The beautiful mystical Loch Ness and its monsters existence has been debated extensively, Drumnadrochit is the ideal location to do any research, with both Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition and Nessieland devoted to assisting in providing information related to all things Loch Ness. Ullapool lies on the shores of Loch Broom, designed by Thomas Telford the town was intended to take advantage of the herring fishing which was in demand at the time, Ullapool Museum & Visitor Centre, a former church is the ideal place to discover more about the history of the town, which in its prime was a bustling fishing port, the ferry to Stornoway still departs from the harbour and the town is a hub for the surrounding villages.
