Itinerary
Day 1
Morning departure from your local pickup point, we make our way to Caernarfon arriving at the hotel mid afternoon.Day 2
At leisure in Caernarfon. The medieval town is home to one of Wales’s most popular castles – a 13th century fortress overlooking the town’s narrow streets and stylish waterfront, all of which can be reached within a few minutes walk from the hotel.Day 3
We head to Anglesey and the beautifully historic town of Beaumaris where we enjoy an 80 minute Puffin Island cruise. Located at the NE entrance of the Menai Strait this little island hosts an abundance of wildlife including Atlantic grey seals, resident coastal birds and visiting sea birds. The puffins are likely to be only seen on our April tour when they nest on the island. After the cruise wehave some free time in Beaumaris then we continue on to Llanfair PG, a small village with a long name, for a short stop before returning to the hotel.
Puffin Island Cruise
The island is steeped in history with the monastic ruins of St Seiriol and the old semaphore station to be seen, you will also pass the lighthouse at Penmon Point. Puffin Island is now a bird sanctuary and a nesting site for many species of breeding seabirds. The main season is between April and July when you are likely to see common guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and of course puffins but as with all seabirds outside of the breeding season they are only found out at sea (you will not see puffins on these cruises outside of the breeding season).
Day 4
We start the day with a 10 minute walk to Caernarfon station where we board the Welsh Highland Railway, the UK’s longest heritage railway. The 1.5 hour, one way journey passes the foot of Snowdon en route to the picture postcard village of Beddgelert. On arrival, we re-join our coach and travel to the nearby unique village of Portmeirion, exploring the lovely terraced gardens, picturesque village and shops.Day 5
