Itinerary
Day 1
Morning departure to Durham, a captivating city with winding cobbled streets and a prominent peninsula crowned with the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site. Explore the timeless quality of this quintessential old English University City, take some time out with a relaxing riverside walk or river cruise, or soak up the atmosphere with superb cafés, artisan workshops, boutiques, galleries and museums.
Day 2
Today we take a scenic drive along the coast. We stop at Holy Island (tide times permitting) and Bamburgh Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in England. See the magnificent State Rooms, a chilling collection of battle-scarred weapons and explore the extensive grounds with a windmill, cannons and striking coastal views.
Day 3
Today we visit Alnwick Castle. Alnwick has served as a military outpost, a teaching college, a refuge for evacuees, a film set, and not least as a family home. Delve deeper into this extraordinary history and travel through the centuries of this living, evolving castle. Mid afternoon we make our way home.
