Itinerary

Day 1

Meet the coach at your local pick up point, we make our way north to Durham. Here you will have free time for sightseeing and shopping before continuing to the hotel.

Day 2

Today we visit Cragside. The house is known as ‘Britain’s original smart house’ as the former resident, William Armstrong, turned water into electricity creating the first hydroelectric machine. Wander the house to see some of his Victorian inventions sitting in a grand fantasy garden.

Day 3

Explore the stunning coastline starting at Holy Island. This tiny island is a magical place of worship with unrivalled views. We visit Lindesfarne Priory and follow the footsteps of ancient monks who built the priory 1400 years ago. On our return to the hotel we stop in Seahouses, a historic fishing village with a pretty harbour.

Day 4

No trip to Northumberland would be complete without taking in the sights of Hadrian’s Wall. Our first stop is Chesters Roman Fort, Britain’s best-preserved Roman cavalry fort. Explore the museum to see Roman artefacts. Onwards to Corbridge, a former Roman village and finishing that day at Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum. Formerly a military post, it has become one of Europe’s most important archaeological sites with excavations still ongoing.

Day 5

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and make our way to Ripon, a small city with plenty of charm and tradition. Enjoy some free time before returning home.
